World-first urban air-taxi port ‘Air One’ to be built in UK
Hyundai Motor Group, Coventry City Council and the United Kingdom Government have all partnered with Urban Air Port to launch the world’s first fully functional “Air One” hub, for electric vertical take-off and landing aircrafts (eVTOL).
Set to be launched in Coventry, England, later this year, the Air One hub will be a ‘pop-up’ urban airport and charging hub for future eVTOL aircrafts such as cargo drones and air taxis.
The hub is said to have a 60 per cent smaller physical footprint than that of a traditional heliport (the most comparable existing infrastructure for reference), and uses module construction, meaning the site can be installed in only a few days.
“Cars need roads. Trains need rails. Planes need airports. eVTOLs will need Urban Air Ports,” said Founder and Executive Chair of Urban Air Port, Ricky Sandhu.
“Over a hundred years ago, the world’s first commercial flight took off, creating the modern connected world. Urban Air Port will improve connectivity across out cities, boost productivity and help the UK to take the lead in a whole new clean global economy”.
With its unique ability to operate off the grid, a wide variety of possible locations are being considered for development.
