VW ID.3 Breaks 530km Mark on Single Charge

The new VW ID.3 has put range anxiety to the test and covered the 531km from Zwickau in Germany to Schaffhausen in Switzerland on a single charge and at an average speed of 56km/h. Officially, the model has a range of up to 420km.

The model used was a series production ID.3 1st Pro Performance with a 58kWh battery and the route consisted entirely of public roads and highways. The vehicle was driven using ‘hypermiling’ techniques – techniques that maximise efficiency and minimise consumption.

While focus was put on being economical with power, the ID.3 had a payload of around 250kg, and auxiliary systems such as navigation, daytime running lights, and radio were either temporarily or permanently in operation. VW reported power consumption was just 10.9 kWh/100 km. The standardised consumption rating of the ID.3 is 15.4-14.5 kWh/100 km.

Although the journey was not entirely comparable with day-to-day trips, VW said it highlights the everyday practicality of the ID.3.
