Volkswagen ID. Aero Concept Revealed
Volkswagen has previewed its first fully-electric sedan with the reveal of its newest concept car, the ID. Aero.
Sitting atop the brand’s ID. range, the production version of the ID. Aero – expected to wear the ID. 6 or ID. 7 moniker – will launch in China in the second half of 2023, followed by Europe and North America.
Powering the concept is a 77kWh battery pack, which uses the car’s 0.23 drag coefficient for up to 620km of WLTP-rated driving range – 70k more than the VW ID. 3 hatchback with the same battery.
The company remains silent on further specifications, stating only that the vehicle is “almost five metres long” and designed on VW’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB).
Said to be an evolution of the 2018’s ID Vizzion and 2019 ID. Space Vizzion concept, the ID. Aero features a sloping ‘coupe-inspired’ roofline, pronounced hear haunches similar to that of the ID. 4 SUV, matrix LED headlights, and ‘honeycomb’ LED tail-lights.
The vehicle is finished in a Polar Light Blue Metallic paintwork – a light metallic colour shade whose colour pigments create a “golden shimmer effect in the appropriate light conditions”. The roof is painted in a high-gloss black to contrast the vehicle’s body.
Whether these features will follow through to the production version remains to be seen.
