Nissan Leaf Nismo RC Makes European Debut
Racing electric vehicles really isn’t a motorsport sideshow anymore. Formula E, Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, Electric Touring Cars, MotoE and other series, -all established in the past six years – are gaining traction and the race to design and build racing EVs is hotting up.
In January, Nissan debuted its Leaf Nismo RC in Europe at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Spain. Originally unveiled in 2018, this Leaf Nismo RC is the second-generation of the EV sportscar and delivers some serious juice – there’s 322hp (240kW) on tap with 640Nm available instantly and, thanks to an all-electric twin-motor and all-wheel-drive drivetrain, a 0-100km/h sprint is achieved in 3.4 seconds. That’s pretty quick.
Nissan says the Leaf Nismo RC is not just for show but is a testbed for future technological evolution, particularly exploring what can be achieved with an all-electric twin-motor and all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
