Lime Scooters looking to expand on Brisbane streets

Lime scooters officially rolled out to Brisbane streets in January 2019 and in just a few short weeks, thousands of rides have been taken across the city.

Lime Asia Pacific head Jeff Roberts said, “It is fantastic to see our fleet being fully utilised by the Brisbane community and there is a high demand for us to expand our services beyond the inner-city.”

Lime electric-powered scooters can travel at speeds of up to 27km/h and can be used by simply downloading an app.

Although the ride-sharing service continues to grow in popularity, riders need to be aware that they are liable should anything happen.

MTA Queensland’s corporate partner Bennett & Philp Lawyers are experts in mobility law and their director Trent Johnson has said the person who hires a Lime scooter would be liable for any crashes they caused while riding.

“At present, we are seeing users of the scooters weaving between pedestrians and I have no doubt that we will see accidents and injuries” he said.
