Koenigsegg Previews New Hypercar Factory
Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg has announced expansion plans for its Ängelholm facility that will significantly boost production capacity and play host to all aspects of its business operations.
The new site, connected to Koenigsegg’s existing factory and offices, will be built on the former runway of the converted Swedish Air Force airfield where the firm has built cars since 2003. It will add an additional 30,000 square metres of building to the current 11,000.
The main feature will be an all-new state-of-the-art factory with high-tech production and assembly lines, designed primarily to build the new four-seat, hybrid Gemera GT.
The Gemera factory exterior is inspired by the accordion-style layout of old Swedish factories, maximizing space and daylight.
Inside is an “open but expandable” space that will serve as the production line as well as a space for developing new technologies.
The facility will also play host to the Koenigsegg customer lounge, offices, warehouse, and experience centre, as well as cinematic event, showroom, and retail spaces. Talks are also in place for an on-site testing track with technical corners to accommodate on-location pre-delivery testing and prototyping trials.
“Koenigsegg’s continued development in Ängelholm is important and shows that the municipal is an attractive place for innovative companies. For us Ängelholmers, it is exciting to be a part of their journey and expansion,” said Robin Holmberg, Chair of Ängelholm’s municipal board.
“This means more jobs, the addition of new Ängelholmers from all over the world and the pull of more innovative companies to our region in the long run.”
Naturally, the expansion necessitates heightened recruitment activities. The company intends to hire another 100 engineers and 150 production staff by the end of 2022, bringing its total headcount to almost 800.
To help boost employee wellbeing and productivity, the company plans to build an interactive green space featuring meeting spaces, dining areas and outdoor gyms.
Koenigsegg also aims to progress its carbon-neutral goals through the installation of solar panels.
CEO and Founder Christian von Koenigsegg expresses his aspiration for the future of the company, “looking back at where we started 27 years ago, it’s incredible to think of the journey we have been on. Our expansion is a mark of our past and future relevance where we are geared towards delivering bleeding-edge mobility tech and our handcrafted ultimate performance automobiles.”
