Hyzon, BLK Auto Unveil Australia’s First Hydrogen Coach

Hyzon Motors, a global supplier of zero-emission vehicles has partnered with distribution specialist BLK Auto to launch Australia’s first hydrogen-powered coach.

The vehicle marks a significant milestone in the country’s adoption of zero-emission vehicles. It can fit up to 50 passengers at once, with up to 700km in range.

“This coach has attracted significant interest since it arrived at our facility, with local bus operators, representatives from various government departments, mining companies and tourism operators coming to see the coach in action and learn more about how these zero-emission, hydrogen fuel-cell powered coaches can be adopted into their respective industries,” said BLK Auto Managing Director Jason Pecotic.

The journey to create the first fuel cell coach originated back in 2019. For the next two and a half years, specialist engineers from USA, China and Australia met twice a week via VC as the design and construction of this coach was put into life. In August 2021, the coach completed a 15,000 powertrain verification by FEV, an independent testing authority, and the coach is ready for Queensland roads.

BLK Auto’s Managing Director Jason Pecotic provides a virtual overview and demonstration of the vehicle while Hyzon’s Head of Special Projects, Simon Coburn provides insights on the technical specifications.
