Hydrogen buses take off in Europe

Europe has cemented itself as a firm leader of mobility with a new fuel cell bus and the first hydrogen run BRT bus expected on European roads from the end of 2019.

Belgian company Van Hool is focusing their energy on an electric future powered through hydrogen and is responsible to soon launch the A330 Fuel Cell (FC) hydrogen bus and the Van Hool Exqui.City 18 FC bus.

According to Van Hool, a FC bus can carry 2.4 times more energy than a battery electric bus, whilst charging approximately 8.5 times faster.

Van Hool has production facilities in Belgium and Macedonia with plans to extend to the US in 2020. The company is capable of producing three fuel cell (FC) buses weekly and this is expected to rise to one a day from September 2019.
