Astron Sustainability visit
In February 2021, I visited Astron Sustainability, one of Australasia’s largest manufacturers of recycled resin with over 30,000 tonnes of plastic waste recycled per annum.
Astron Sustainability recycles hard plastic (Polyethylene – PP) products including waste bins, drums, and industrial bulk containers. This is the material that is primarily used in car bumpers. Plastic shredding is carried out at the plant to produce resin, which makes recycled bottles, crates, brushes and trays.
During the tour, I spoke with the plant’s Operations Manager, Simon Crook, who said he was supportive of the idea, however, he was concerned about the cleanliness and quality of the plastic that entered the plant.
